JAKARTA -Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that companies had expressed commitment to invest Rp92.3 trillion in 19 special economic zones, out of which Rp32.76 trillion had been realized as of July 2021.
“Until July, 166 investors had invested in special economic zones and created 26,741 jobs,” Hartarto noted during a webinar on special economic zones monitored in Jakarta on Monday.
The companies operating in the special economic zones exported Rp3.66 trillion worth of goods between January and July 2021, he remarked.
Meanwhile, 129 corporate bodies had registered their profiles with the special economic zone applications until August 2021 to obtain special facilities after operating at the special economic zones.
The facilities include exemptions from income tax, value-added tax, luxury sales tax, import duties, import tax, and excise.
“Until August 2021, we received 11 applications for the master list, with a value of Rp740 billion and 65 applications for special economic zone service notifications with a value of Rp1.21 trillion,” he noted.
The minister noted that the various facilities were not the only stimulus to boost the competitive edge of special economic zones. To this end, the government had continued to boost the production of export-oriented companies in the special economic zones, especially with regard to the global supply chain to attract investors to invest in the special economic zones.
“Of course, we must drive automation through the development of industry 4.0 to increase the productivity of various industries,” he remarked.
