JAKARTA, 5 September 2023 – The Indian Mission to ASEAN and Embassy of India, Jakarta in association with KADIN and Invest India organized a panel discussion on ‘Digital Transformation and Digital Public Infrastructure for Enabling Economic Growth’ to promote multilateral cooperation between India and the ASEAN. The event was a key side event of the ASEAN-Indo-Pacific Forum (AIPF) taking place in Jakarta, that aims to bring together 900+ government & industry leaders from 18+ countries. One of the four key themes of the AIPF 2023 is to foster Inclusive Digital Transformation.
The event was inaugurated by the Indian Ambassador to ASEAN, Mr. Jayant N. Khobragade, and the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty both of whom delivered their address to share thoughts and guide the discussions of the day.
This was followed by an engaging panel discussion with distinguished speakers from the field- Mr. Hazremi Hamid, Senior Officer for Digital Economy, ASEAN Secretariat; Mr. Debabrata Nayak, Chief Technology Officer, Digital India Corporation; Mr. Gurjit Singh, Former Ambassador of India to Germany, Indonesia, Ethiopia, ASEAN and the African Union; Bapak Setiaji, Chief Digital Transformation Office of Ministry of Health, Government of Indonesia and Mr. Rohit Sethi, Senior Principal, Kearney. The session was moderated by Ms. Sai Sudha Chandrasekaran, Vice President & APAC Head, Invest India.
India’s emphasis on Public Digital Infrastructure has sparked a revolutionary shift in the digital realm, ushering in a series of initiatives that have not only empowered its citizens but also reshaped the nation’s economic landscape.
Ms. Sunaina Khanna, Assistant Vice President, Invest India presented the New India Opportunity along with India’s digital journey and transformation to set the context. Mr. Debabrata Nayak presented the concept of India Stack and its 4 layers and shared the experiences that India had during the development and implementation of the stack.
The panel discussion encompassed a range of topics, including strategies to localize India’s digital solutions for effective integration within the ASEAN region, sharing best practices drawn from each country’s unique digital journeys, showcasing examples of innovation and disruption across the region, highlighting valuable lessons from both successes and challenges, and exploring avenues to further enhance the digital connectivity and unity between India and ASEAN.
Through the exchange of ideas, expertise, and insights, this collaboration will pave the way for the advancement of digital infrastructure, and seamless cross-border digital connectivity for its citizens, highlight business and employment opportunities, and cultivate prosperity and dynamism in the India-ASEAN region.
The event was also attended by representatives from the Government of Indonesia, apex commerce and industry bodies, business owners, and start-up founders from India and Indonesia.
