Jakarta, December 9, 2024 – The Indian Embassy in Indonesia collaborated with the India-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce (IndCham) to host the “India-Indonesia Investment Synergy Forum: Bridging the Future” on Friday (12/6/2024) at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, in commemoration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia.

The event was opened by the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Sandeep Chakravorty. In his remarks, Ambassador Chakravorty noted that India and Indonesia share numerous similarities in their development and economic journeys. “We all know the goals of Indonesia Emas for 2045, and India developed Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Ambassador Chakravorty stated on Friday (12/6/2024).

Recognizing that both nations share similar objectives, Ambassador Chakravorty emphasized that cooperation between India and Indonesia must be closely intertwined, particularly in areas such as digitalization and technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), enhancing the manufacturing sector, the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, and the green economy.

Ambassador Chakravorty further articulated, “We (India) have embarked for the last ten years at least on a pathway of self-reliance, of making India, of digitizing India, of having a very robust start-up ecosystem, and these are the lessons that we want to share with Indonesia.”

Moreover, Ambassador Chakravorty underscored India’s strong support for Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy. “With the presidency of Prabowo Subianto, we’re very keen to partner with Indonesia, because we believe very sincerely in Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy. Indonesians believe that Indonesia can have multiple partners, and we want to be one of the major partners of Indonesia,” he explained.

The forum, titled “India-Indonesia Investment Synergy Forum: Bridging the Future,” continued with a keynote address by Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

“Indonesia is going through a transformation through industrial downstreaming, strengthening the digital economy, developing the new economy such as the semiconductor ecosystem, as well as energy transition,” Airlangga explained, highlighting economic growth efforts ranging from 5.3% to 8% over five years under President Prabowo’s leadership.

“India is a significant partner for Indonesia. The two countries trade around 27 billion (US dollars) and the growth is around 20 percent on yearly basis. For Indonesia, India is our strategic partner not only in trading but in investment as well,” Minister Airlangga continued, emphasizing Indonesia’s need to build bridges and establish connections with India.

Minister Airlangga also invited all parties to collaborate and advance shared economic objectives between India and Indonesia. “Let us seize the opportunities before us to strengthen our partnership further and create prosperous future for our people,” he concluded.

The first-panel discussion in the “India-Indonesia Investment Synergy: Bridging the Future” event centered on the theme “Building Bridges between ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make in Indonesia’.” The panel session was opened by Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Deputy for Investment Cooperation at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board.

Following the opening remarks, the discussion was moderated by M. Taufiqurrahman, Editor-in-Chief of The Jakarta Post, who guided the dialogue with several panelists. The panelists included Shinta W. Kamdani, Chairwoman of APINDO; Bambang Susantono, former Vice President of ADB; Raja Singh Khurana, Vice President of Invest India; Hemant Kabra, Director of RR Global; and Vikram Sinha, CEO of Indosat Ooredoo.

The discussion focused on the importance of synergy between India and Indonesia in enhancing economic collaboration, investment, and joint production. The panelists explored various opportunities and challenges that both countries could leverage to strengthen their trade and investment relationships.

Panelists for this session included Raunak Kapoor, Associate Partner at MicroSave Consulting; Oki Ramadhana, Commissioner of IDX; Kumar Ankit from Paytm; Sandip Shah, Department Head of IFSC at GIFT CITY; Paneet Punj from DBS Bank Singapore; and Aris Sutantio, Business Development Director at Bank SBI Indonesia.

The discussion explored innovative financing approaches to ensure economic sustainability and resilience amid constantly evolving global dynamics. The panelists also discussed potential investments that could support economic transformation in both countries.
