Jakarta, Indonesia – August 25, 2024: To mark the momentous occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of India and the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor-Leste hosted a prestigious Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the renowned Pondok Indah Golf Course. This event was followed by an elegant dinner reception attended by over 200 guests, further symbolizing the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

The premium-quality golf tournament was played by over 140 golfers of both nationalities, including diplomats, government officials, business leaders, and prominent members of the Indian and Indonesian communities. This second edition of the India-Indonesia Golf Cup was a distinguished celebration of the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship and shared values between the two countries.

The golf tournament was inaugurated by His Excellency Bapak Andy Rachmianto, Director-General for Protocol and Consular Affairs/Chief of State Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia and Bapak Juda Agung, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia. As the tournament commenced, His Excellency Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timor-Leste emphasized the significance of the event, stating, stating, “The golf tournament celebrates our evolving bilateral relations over the last 75 years and heralds new beginnings and new opportunities ahead of us. It is the perfect contemporary and popular way to celebrate not only the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations but a millennia of cultural contact. As in the past we inhabited the same cultural space, in the present we inhabit the world’s democratic space and will jointly emerge in the coming years as economic power houses of the world.”

Following the golf tournament, an awards ceremony took place, recognizing the achievements of the participants. The India-Indonesia Golf Cup 2024 was won by a team consisting of Noah Haji, Henry Lee, Djonnie Rachmat and Xavier Selga. The evening culminated in a grand Independence Day reception dinner hosted by the Ambassador, where golfers and non-golfing guests gathered to celebrate the day’s events. This reception reflected the camaraderie and friendship between the peoples of India and Indonesia.

The India Indonesia Golf Cup tournament has received official endorsement from the IndoFringe International Festival, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, and the Wonderful Indonesia campaign. The organizers chose the Pondok Indah Golf Course strategically located in South Jakarta as the venue for this prestigious event due to its world-class course design, stunning scenery, and exceptional facilities, making it a premier venue for hosting international golf tournaments. A premium food and beverage experience was provided by Marriott Bonvoy, ensuring that participants and guests enjoy top-tier hospitality throughout the day.

The Embassy of India also worked with Marriott Bonvoy group to raise IDR 250 million as charity funds that was presented to Sungai Watch, an organization dedicated to protecting and restoring rivers in Indonesia. This initiative reflects the Indian community’s dedication to making meaningful contributions to conservation efforts in Indonesia, further strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

This year, the tournament has attracted a record number of more than 40 companies extending their support, a testament to the event’s growing prestige and significance.
